Mobile network disruption coincides with radio 1&1's warning on that specific day
T-Mobile Network Disruption During National Warning Day Test
On the day of the national warning day test, telecommunications company T-Mobile experienced a disruption in their mobile network. According to the company, there was some impairment in mobile phone usage for a small number of T-Mobile customers. The cause of the disruption was initially unclear, but it was promptly resolved.
The disruption was first noticed around 11 a.m., a significant network outage affecting many users. During this time, approximately 18,800 complaints about T-Mobile were submitted on allestoerungen.de, compared to the usual 35 in that time window. The problem seemed to be of short duration, as the complaint curve dropped sharply after 11:50 a.m.
Complaints about T-Mobile came from major cities throughout the federal territory, such as Berlin, Stuttgart, and Cologne. However, Vodafone and O2 mobile networks were running normally and without any problems during the same time period.
The similar development in complaints about Vodafone and Telekom might be due to people mistakenly complaining about these providers, thinking they were responsible for T-Mobile's disruption. Approximately 1,200 critical comments were received about Vodafone on allestoerungen.de within 15 minutes, which is less than a tenth of the complaints about T-Mobile. The complaints about Vodafone also subsided after a short duration.
The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) president, Ralph Tiesler, stated there is no connection between the T-Mobile outage and the warning day. O2 stated that complaints incorrectly referring to O2 Telefónica were related to the impairments in the area of responsibility of the service provider T-Mobile.
A T-Mobile spokesperson stated that they saw no current impairment of their mobile network in the context of the warning day. No problems were reported by T-Mobile's competitors during the same time period.
In conclusion, the T-Mobile mobile network outage during the national warning day test was a significant disruption affecting many users, but it affected only a small portion of customers and was resolved quickly. The company and authorities stated there is no direct connection between the Warntag and the outage.
