Mobile Carrier Vodafone Establishes a New Cellular Tower in Schenkendöbern

Vodafone, a leading telecommunications company and the largest national subsidiary of the Vodafone Group, is set to enhance mobile network coverage and internet infrastructure in the Spree-Neiße district by mid-2026.

Network Upgrades and Infrastructure Development

The expansion plans involve upgrading existing 4G LTE networks and rolling out 5G technology across the district. This will significantly boost mobile internet speeds and network reliability. The project includes the installation of new base stations and upgrading current telecom towers to support new technologies.

Targeted Areas and Timeline

Urban centers such as Forst, Spremberg, and Guben will see enhanced 5G coverage. Rural communities and smaller towns within Spree-Neiße district will benefit from improved 4G and initial 5G services, addressing previous connectivity gaps. The rollout and upgrades are planned to be completed by mid-2026.

Community Impact

Improved digital infrastructure is expected to support local businesses, enhance emergency services communication, and contribute to economic development. Over 3,000 residents and guests have already been connected to Vodafone’s mobile data highway through the new station in Schenkendorf, eliminating a dead zone in mobile broadband coverage.

Enhanced Emergency Services

The station enables emergency calls and disaster warnings, including the latest variants of AML and Cell Broadcast technology. The AML technology automatically transmits the caller’s location to the emergency control center when calling "112". The Cell Broadcast system installed in all mobile communication stations allows for population-wide warnings about danger situations such as large fires, gas explosions, or floods.

Sustainability and Partnership

Vodafone aims to be carbon neutral by 2025 and emissions-free by 2040, with its power demand already covered 100% by renewable energies. Vodafone is partnering with OXG to build up to seven million new FTTH fiber connections in the coming years.
