In a recent unfortunate incident, a Xpeng P7 was involved in a high-speed collision with a semi-truck. The accident, which occurred while the NGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) autonomous driving system was active, has raised concerns about the vehicle's safety features.

Photos from the accident scene show that the front of the Xpeng P7 was severely deformed, with some parts broken. The car did not decelerate before the collision, and it is reported that it was being driven at a speed of 120km/h. The impact was so strong that both airbags in the vehicle were ejected.

The truck involved in the accident was a flatbed truck with an extended part of the tail that did not carry any cargo. The car recognised the truck only ten meters before the crash, but it did not manage to avoid the collision.

The accident resulted in the car owner suffering a concussion and body aches, requiring hospitalization. The owner has expressed disappointment with the Xpeng P7 and has requested the car to be returned.

Xpeng Motors officials have conducted a preliminary analysis of the accident and have acknowledged the issue. They have promised to provide a detailed explanation after further analysis and the resumption of the market with the owner's consent.

In response to the incident, a "helper of the Pengyou butler" from Xpeng has acknowledged the issue and promised to follow up. However, as of now, Xpeng's customer service has not made any condolence calls.

It is worth noting that the system's front vehicle identification and control, seat belt vibration reminder, vehicle warning, AEB, and other functions were working normally before the collision. The NGP system was still automatically changing lanes to overtake before the collision.

As of August 2025, there are no available search results specifically addressing an accident involving the Xpeng P7’s NGP autonomous navigation system or any subsequent investigation by Xpeng Motors. It may be necessary to check specialized news outlets or official announcements from Xpeng Motors directly for the most current and precise information.

On a positive note, the Xpeng X9 range-extender MPV parameters have been exposed and are expected to launch in Q4. This development could signal a step forward in Xpeng's commitment to providing safe and reliable electric vehicles to its customers.
