Legislative body in Uttar Pradesh conducts AI education session for local representatives
The Uttar Pradesh Assembly is set to undergo a digital transformation with the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) during its upcoming sessions. This move aims to enhance transparency, improve governance, and empower public representatives by leveraging advanced AI technologies.
The state government has been adopting technology, as evident from the recent training session held on 'Empowering Public Representatives: Strengthening Communication and Governance through AI'. This initiative, organised in Lucknow, is part of a broader strategy to equip MLAs with the necessary skills to utilise AI tools effectively in their work.
One of the key features of the AI implementation is the installation of state-of-the-art AI cameras with facial recognition technology. These cameras will monitor who attends sessions, their duration of presence, and their participation in debates, thereby increasing accountability and openness in legislative functioning.
Moreover, AI will conduct topic-based content analysis of speeches and activities, enabling objective evaluation of MLAs' contributions. This analysis will provide valuable insights into the focus areas of legislative proceedings and help in improving the efficiency of governance and development initiatives.
To ensure seamless integration, a detailed profile of every MLA, including name, party, constituency, gender, date of birth, photo, and other personal details, will be fed into the system. The AI system will then be able to identify the names and faces registered in the list of MLAs.
The upcoming winter session will witness the full implementation of AI in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. However, the Monsoon Session, which began today, will also see the pilot project of AI cameras in the assembly.
In a bid to address concerns raised by the opposition, UP Minister Jaiveer Singh has assured that the government is ready to address all issues. Meanwhile, Congress MLA Aradhana Misra-Mona has expressed her belief that Uttar Pradesh has been made digital, and the use of AI will simplify many processes.
This move aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s broader vision to become an AI-driven state by 2047, contributing to the development of Lucknow as a pioneering AI city. The modernisation of legislative operations, increased accountability of elected officials, and advancement of governance quality through data-driven insights and technological empowerment are the key objectives of this initiative.
