Kwik Trip Drops Pennies: A New Era for Cash Transactions
Kwik Trip, a prominent convenience store chain with nearly 900 locations across six states, has announced a significant change in its cash transaction policy. The company will no longer accept or give out cent coins, also known as pennies, at its stores. The new policy, set to remain in effect until a permanent legislative solution is enacted, will see cash transactions rounded down to the nearest five cents. This means customers will benefit from a slight discount on their purchases. The change will be implemented as penny supplies are exhausted, with stores going 'penniless' at different times. Register systems have been updated to automatically apply these rounding rules.
Kwik Trip serves almost 12 million people every week, making this a significant shift in operations. However, credit card and digital transactions, such as those facilitated by services like CashApp, will remain unaffected by this change.
