IT sector's GDP contribution has been doubled in five years, according to Michael Mishustin.

Breaking News: The Russian IT industry is rapidly expanding, according to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. Over the past five years, the industry has grown by an impressive 28%, with almost double the contribution to the country's GDP.

Mishustin attributed the surge in demand for domestic corporate solutions, particularly in areas like database management systems and cloud infrastructure, which have seen more than 10-fold sales growth. He also noted a shift from foreign suppliers to domestic technologies due to the sanctions, with domestic software now gaining widespread use across all sectors.

President Vladimir Putin aims to have 80% of organizations in key sectors using domestic software by 2030, a goal that Mishustin recalled. On March 19, the Minister of Digital Development, Maksut Shadaev, revealed that the sales volume of domestic IT solutions in 2024 increased by 46% to 4.6 trillion rubles.

This growth spurt in the IT sector is part of Russia's broader strategy to achieve digital maturity and sovereignty. While there's still ground to cover in terms of technological gaps that could potentially) allow foreign vendors to re-enter the market, the government has increased tax deductions for software-related expenses to incentivize investments in domestic software and infrastructure.

Mishustin's statements underscore a transition towards using more homegrown software across various industries, a move driven largely by the need to maintain operational stability and efficiency under sanctions pressure. With a focus on closing technological gaps and supporting the export potential of Russian IT companies, the government aims to protect Russia's technological sovereignty in the global IT landscape.
