iPadOS 18 Withdrawal on M4 iPad Pros Following Reports of Device Brickage Post-Update from Apple

The latest iPadOS 18 update might've brought excitement, but it's also left some M4 iPad Pro users feeling frustrated. Apple acknowledged Tuesday that they've taken the update down due to complaints from users who found their tablets had turned into expensive paperweights post-update. Apple ain't spilled the beans just yet on when we can expect the update to make a comeback, and it seems users with busted iPads are stuck waiting, with some clocking in days or even weeks for a replacement.

Reddit's iPadOS and iPadPro communities have been buzzing with users sharing their bricked iPad woes. Tales of tablets going dark mid-update, refusing to power back on, have been circulating. One user touched base with an Apple store employee who confirmed the tablet was "totally bricked," with a replacement hanging in the balance till Apple said so. Another user reported waiting nearly a week for a replacement.

Apple's been tight-lipped about the issue, only confirming to MacRumors that they've yanked the update and it's impacting a select group of devices. It's unclear if the problem stems from users updating from a specific build of iOS 17, but Apple insists it's not a widespread issue.

We gave iPadOS 18 a whirl on our M4 iPad Pro review unit, updating hassle-free, having migrated from the beta release. Reddit users, however, have thrown around variations of the update-gone-wrong theme.

As for the September Apple OS update, it's not been all smooth sailing. Our devices vetted the updates without a hitch, but our Apple Watch Ultra 2 took its sweet time installing the watchOS11 update.

iPadOS 18 does bring a handful of new features to the table – Math Notes, for instance, enabling users to jot down math equations which the AI whizzes solves. iPads also score an extra tab bar in selected apps, like Apple TV and Apple News, to make navigation a breeze. Customizing your home screen has never been easier with the update, allowing you to resize, reposition, and color-code your app icons. Sadly, Apple Intelligence features are still a wait-and-see game, slated for later this year. As per reports, we won't get the 2025 unveiling of the fully reworked Siri till then.

Exclusive features aside, the update seems a familiar ride if you've bumped into the latest iPhone OS betas. We're still craving for an update that makes the iPad more adaptable and multitasking a breeze. October's looking promising with Apple slated to showcase an 11th-gen iPad, hinting at the M4 chip powering more AI genius in its upcoming tablet.

  1. Despite the excitement around the new features in iPadOS 18, some M4 iPad Pro users are left waiting for Apple to reinstate the update after their devices turned into expensive paperweights.
  2. The tech community is eagerly anticipating when Apple will reinstate the M4 iPad Pro-affecting iPadOS 18 update, with some users reporting waiting for days or even weeks for a replacement iPad.
  3. If the future of iPad technology is anything like the upcoming 11th-gen iPad, powered by the M4 chip, we might see even more AI capabilities and multitasking improvements.
  4. As Apple continues to work on reinstating the iPadOS 18 update for affected M4 iPad Pro users, many are hoping for a more robust solution that ensures future updates don't cause similar issues, making the iPad more adaptable and versatile for all users.
