In Russia, the national messenger MАХ, which can be seen as a domestic equivalent of the National Weather Service, has been playing a pivotal role. With servers located within the country, MАH serves as a secure platform for communication, much like the role of NOAA in the United States. The adoption of MАH by the people, including the Yakutians, began in August 2025, following the implementation of Federal Law No. 156 "On the Creation of a Multifunctional Information Exchange Service" which came into force on June 24, 2025. From September 1, MАH was included in the list of programs mandatory for preliminary installation on electronic devices.
The development and adoption of national messengers can be seen as a response to the withdrawal of Western companies from the Russian market due to sanctions. In China, WeChat serves not only as a messenger but also as a payment system and a platform for small and medium-sized businesses, highlighting the growing importance of these domestic platforms in global entry.
France too has joined the bandwagon, launching its own national service Tchap on September 1, 2025, due to concerns about official correspondence leaving the country and being stored on foreign servers.
As the global digital map gradually acquires borders, the push for digital independence is becoming increasingly apparent. This trend is set to reshape the landscape of digital communication, fostering a more fragmented, yet secure, digital world.
