Increase in SPOT and satellite IoT device sales for Telesat Communications by 35% year-over-year observed in 2024
Global Telesat Communications Sees Surge in Sales of Globalstar Satellite IoT Devices
Global Telesat Communications (GTC), a subsidiary of NextPlat Corp., has experienced a significant increase in sales of Globalstar's SPOT and satellite IoT devices in 2024. This growth is primarily driven by the SPOT Gen4, SPOT X, SPOT Trace, and SmartOne C satellite IoT transmitters.
The demand for Globalstar's commercial IoT devices is continuous across various industries, including utilities suppliers, civil and national defence organizations, humanitarian aid NGOs, and commercial sectors requiring remote asset monitoring, environmental sensing, and logistics management.
One customer has recently procured a large number of SmartOne C units to monitor oil and gas pipelines, demonstrating the versatility of these devices. GTC has sold over 10,800 Globalstar devices in 2024, a testament to the growing interest in satellite IoT solutions.
The sales growth is also influenced by the rising adoption of Commercial IoT devices for asset tracking, remote monitoring, and location services, serving industries like government, defence, logistics, and autonomous systems. The expansion of government and defence sector contracts, leveraging satellite-enabled software-defined communications and 5G technologies, drives demand for resilient, secure IoT solutions supporting mission-critical applications.
Globalstar's network investments, including ground station expansions in strategic locations like Singapore, have enhanced service coverage and reliability for customers in Southeast Asia and globally. This expansion is expected to contribute to the continued growth in the satellite IoT market, which is projected to rise relative to cellular IoT due to improved technology and broader application use cases.
Mark O'Connell, the EMEA and APAC general manager of Globalstar, congratulates GTC on its ongoing success, while David Phipps, the managing director of GTC and the CEO of global operations of NextPlat Corp., reports the extraordinary growth in sales of Globalstar's products. The partnership between Globalstar and GTC continues to be successful, as reported by David Phipps.
In May 2024, GTC celebrated reaching a total of 45,000 Globalstar device sales overall. This milestone was not reached without challenges, as GTC has also seen accelerated demand from parties operating in regions affected by political instability or conflict. However, the ease of use and economical price of SPOT devices have been key drivers in the accelerated uptake of the devices.
Globalstar Europe Satellite Services Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Globalstar, Inc., continues to play a crucial role in this success story. The company's satellite-enabled tracking and SOS capabilities have been instrumental in facilitating over 10,000 rescues worldwide, as Globalstar announced in 2023.
In conclusion, the surge in sales by Global Telesat Communications reflects both broadening IoT market adoption and targeted expansion in government and commercial sectors, underpinned by Globalstar’s advancing satellite network and product offerings.
