Increase in Aadhaar-centered facial verification transactions jumps to 200 billion in mere 6 months' timeframe.

In a significant milestone for digital identity verification, Aadhaar-based face authentication transactions in India have surpassed the 200 crore mark. This landmark was reached on August 10, 2025, just six months after hitting the 100 crore milestone.

The rapid increase in transactions underlines the trust and confidence in Aadhaar's secure, inclusive, and innovative authentication ecosystem. Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI, stated, "The swift rise from 100 crore to 200 crore Aadhaar Face Authentication transactions in just six months reflects the core vision of Digital India."

The journey from 100 crore to 200 crore transactions in under six months is a testament to the scalability and the country's digital readiness. The pace of adoption of Aadhaar-based face authentication has been exponential, with 50 crore transactions recorded by mid-2024 and doubling to 100 crore transactions in January 2025. July 2025 saw a record-breaking 19.36 crore transactions, more than three times the volume from July 2024.

Wider Adoption and Integration

The growth in Aadhaar-based face authentication can be attributed to its expanding adoption across over 150 entities such as government ministries, financial institutions, telecom companies, and oil marketing companies. These entities use face authentication to securely deliver services and benefits.

Integration with major government programs like the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) for social security benefits, enhances ease and security for beneficiaries. Aadhaar face authentication is also used in diverse areas, such as attendance marking in all 850 medical colleges under the National Medical Commission and identification/verification for recruitment processes (Staff Selection Commission, Railway Recruitment Board).

The face authentication system supports both Android and iOS, increasing accessibility. Collaboration between UIDAI and government, private sector banks, and service providers is scaling up the authentication ecosystem, promoting a paperless and contactless verification mechanism.

Empowering Digital India

This milestone in Aadhaar Face Authentication transactions is a testament to how inclusive technology, when scaled efficiently, can bridge divides and empower citizens. The landmark of 200 crore transactions is not just about numbers, but about the potential of technology to empower citizens and bridge divides.

The dramatic increase in Aadhaar-based face authentications reflects growing confidence, wider adoption, and deeper integration of biometric technologies in public and private services, significantly advancing the goals of Digital India to enable secure, inclusive, and efficient digital verification nationwide.

The milestone in Aadhaar Face Authentication transactions is a testament to how technology can accelerate India's journey towards a truly connected and confident digital future. UIDAI is giving every Indian the power to prove their identity instantly, securely, and anywhere through Aadhaar Face Authentication.
