Acteon's MENCK Secures Contract for Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm

Acteon's Marine Foundations business line, MENCK, has secured a significant contract to supply pile-driving equipment and operational services for the construction of the world's largest offshore wind farm, Hornsea 3.

MENCK's contribution to the project includes the supply of its MHU4400S hydraulic hammer, a pile sleeve, and an anvil, designed for monopiles of up to eleven metres in diameter. This equipment is engineered to efficiently drive large monopiles and smaller-diameter piles, which are essential for the installation of the wind farm's foundations.

Tim Erdmann, Head of Projects at MENCK, stated that MENCK's MHU series hydraulic hammers are designed to deliver maximum efficiency in the most challenging offshore environments.

Haizea Bilbao and SeAH Wind have been contracted for the supply of XXL monopiles for the project. The monopile units will be stored at Steel River Quay before they are loaded onto installation vessels. The monopile foundations will be installed by Cadeler under a contract signed with Ørsted in 2023.

With an installed capacity of 2.9 GW, Hornsea 3 will feature about 200 Siemens Gamesa's 14 MW turbines. The wind farm, located approximately 160 kilometers off the Yorkshire coast, aims to add 2.9 GW of renewable energy capacity, enough to power over three million UK homes annually.

Ørsted was awarded a Contract for Difference (CfD) for Hornsea Three in July 2022. The project is expected to be operational by 2027. However, no new information about the Contract for Difference (CfD) for Hornsea Three was provided in this paragraph.
