Huawei and Chery finalize agreement to progress Luxeed cooperation into the next phase.
Luxeed, the joint venture between Huawei and Chery, is gearing up for the launch of its first multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) model, the EHV, in early 2026. This development marks a significant milestone for Luxeed as it expands its portfolio under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) business.
The EHV, based on Chery's E0X-L platform, is expected to offer both pure electric (BEV) and extended-range variants, powered by CATL batteries. This MPV is set to join the Luxeed R9 SUV, which is also scheduled for a 2026 launch.
The EHV project inherits resources from Chery’s terminated Exeed Exlantix E08 luxury MPV program, focusing development under Luxeed. This move aims to leverage the combined strengths of both companies to create a compelling offering in the roughly $50,000 MPV segment.
The growing demand for MPVs in China, which saw an almost 50% year-on-year increase in H1 2025, provides a fertile ground for the EHV's arrival.
Luxeed has been actively updating and launching new models this year. In August 2025, the company unveiled updated versions of the S7 sedan and R7 coupe SUV. However, the EHV MPV is expected to launch earlier, specifically in early 2026.
The Luxeed R7, the first coupe SUV under HIMA, was launched on September 24, 2024. The Luxeed S7, a pure electric sedan, made its debut on November 28, 2023.
To support this expansion, Luxeed plans to invest over RMB 10 billion ($1.4 billion) and increase its R&D team to 5,000 people. The company, which operates independently for production, sales, and services, signed a cooperation agreement for the joint car brand Luxeed with Huawei in Shenzhen.
The HIMA business unit includes five brands: Luxeed, Stelato under BAIC Group, Aito under Seres Group, Shangjie under SAIC Motor, and Maextro under Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group. A new energy vehicle (NEV) company dedicated to Luxeed has also been established.
In a separate development, the production of Chery's Exeed Sterra E08 MPV has been halted, and some project team members have been transferred to Luxeed to strengthen its MPV R&D capabilities.
With the EHV's launch just around the corner, Luxeed is set to make a bold entry into the MPV market in China, further expanding its presence under the HIMA business.
