Handling Power Outages in Almaty: Strategies for Emergency Situations
Going Smart in Almaty: Automatic Outdoor Lighting Topped for 2025!
By the year 2025, the Kazakh metropolis of Almaty is aiming high with a switch to smart lighting control. This ambitious upgrade involves revamping 800 outdated cabinet managing outdoor lighting (CMO) systems in the city, as reported by its city administration's press service.
The swap from old to new technology promises several key benefits. As Igor Mysyk, the head of GКP "Almaty Kalajaryk", explains, the modern equipment installed in the new CMOs significantly slashes power outages, quickens malfunction detection and repair, and guarantees uninterrupted and premium-quality outdoor lighting. This year, 800 new CMOs are expected to make their debut on the cityscape. Previously, 60% of line outages were caused by wear and tear of this equipment.
Architectural and decorative lighting has gained significant importance. By 2025, 70 buildings will get this treatment, ranging from KazNU and Kurmangazy Conservatory to Baluan Sholak Sports Complex, train stations, and the "Sunkar" ski jump. Currently, lighting has already been installed on key buildings like Kazhydromet, the Army House, and akimats.
Last year, lighting projects on 56 historical and cultural monuments were completed, with 128 projectors installed. The 28 Panfilov Heroes Park received a facelift, with 470 lamps replaced, over 6 km of cable lines, and 450 automatic switches installed.
Back in the spring, we revealed the commencement of 16 km of new outdoor lighting lines on 84 previously unlit segments in Almaty.
This year, the focus lies on restoring 52 km of cable lines, installing 487 lighting poles, and replacing over 2500 lamps in the Auezovsky district.
In February, Almaty's Akim Yerbolat Dosaev, in a meeting with Jetisu district residents, announced plans to illuminate 600 previously dark Almaty areas this year, install 4,500 light points, and continue constructing lines with a total length of 136 km. With these measures in place, the city targets 100% illumination of urban spaces.
