H2SITE's Ammonia Cracker Boosts UK's Green Hydrogen Production

H2SITE, a Spanish tech company, has successfully installed an efficient ammonia cracker for the Ammogen Project in the UK. This innovative system, using membrane reactor technology, produces fuel-cell grade hydrogen for mobility applications in the Birmingham area. The project, aiming to boost international hydrogen trade, involves key partners like Tyseley Energy Park, DESNZ, Gemserv, EQUANS, Yara International, and the University of Birmingham.

H2SITE's ammonia cracker, the first of its kind, cracks ammonia into its products and separates hydrogen in-situ through membranes. This eliminates the need for downstream separation units, making the project management more efficient. The system produces a substantial 200 kg of green hydrogen per day, with an impressive over 98% hydrogen recovery rate and virtually complete ammonia conversions at mild temperatures.

Founded in 2020, H2SITE specializes in reactors and separators for converting various feedstocks into hydrogen and separating hydrogen from gaseous mixtures. Dr. Mark Bulk, the founder and executive of H2SITE, led the development of this cutting-edge ammonia splitter. Jose Medrano, Technical Director at H2SITE, sees the Ammogen project as a significant steppingstone. He envisions scaling up the technology to process tons of ammonia per day within the next two years.

H2SITE's ammonia cracker for the Ammogen Project is a significant milestone in promoting international hydrogen trade. The system's high efficiency and production rate make it a valuable asset for green hydrogen mobility applications in the Birmingham area. With ambitious plans to scale up the technology, H2SITE looks set to play a pivotal role in the growing hydrogen economy.
