GWM to Unveil Stunning PHEV Supercar, Their Innovative Flagship Model at 3 O'clock

Great Wall Motor (GWM), a leading Chinese vehicle manufacturer, has announced its plans to enter the high-performance supercar market with the launch of a new flagship model under the "Confidence Auto" brand. The upcoming supercar is expected to be unveiled by the end of 2025[1][2][3].

The supercar, which has been in development for five years, will boast a performance-focused plug-in hybrid powertrain, featuring either a V8 or V6 combustion motor. However, specific details about the new V8 engine and the powertrain's total output are yet to be revealed by GWM[4].

Reports suggest that the new V8 could produce up to 600bhp and 590lb ft on its own[5]. This power would place the supercar in a league of its own, with a total output similar to that of the McLaren Artura, Ferrari 296, and Lamborghini Terzo Millennio[6].

The supercar from Great Wall Motor will be competing with the Yangwang U9, another Chinese supercar that has made headlines for its impressive performance. The Yangwang U9 is a 1250bhp, 240mph super-EV that has set a record at the Nürburgring, completing the lap in just 7 minutes 18 seconds[7].

Confidence Auto, the new range-topping brand from Great Wall Motor, will position itself above the company's existing brands, aiming to rival BYD's Yangwang marque[8]. The supercar is promised to offer a driving experience that surpasses its European rivals, thanks to its lightweight carbonfibre tub[9].

Great Wall Motor has had a successful year, delivering 1.23 million vehicles globally in 2020[10]. The company's portfolio includes several vehicle brands, such as Ora, Haval, Poer (due in the UK soon), Wey, and Tank[11].

While the exact release date for the supercar is yet to be confirmed, pre-orders for the vehicle might begin as early as 2026, pending U.S. certification for safety and emissions if it is intended for the U.S. market[1][2][3]. The supercar's unveiling at the Guangzhou motor show, one of the biggest events on the Chinese automotive calendar, towards the end of November, is highly anticipated[2].
