Greetings! From Japan to Damansara Heights: The Five restaurant, offering gluten-free udon and plant-based dishes by age 18.

Proton, a Malaysian automotive company, has announced the launch of two electric vehicle (EV) models - the e.MAS 5 Prime and the e.MAS 5 Premium. These vehicles are designed to cater to the needs of practical, tech-savvy, and budget-conscious consumers, focusing on range efficiency, interior practicality, and basic advanced safety features.

Battery and Charging

The e.MAS 5 Prime and e.MAS 5 Premium are powered by a 40.16 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by CATL. Both models support DC fast charging up to 71 kW, with approximately 21 minutes required to charge from 30% to 80%. They also offer single-phase AC charging of up to 6.6 kW. The Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability is not yet confirmed but is likely possible given the Geely Xinyuan platform basis.

Performance

The e.MAS 5 Prime and e.MAS 5 Premium are equipped with an 85 kW electric motor that produces 150 Nm of torque. The vehicles can accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and their top speed is estimated around 135 km/h (based on the Geely Xingyuan model they are based on). The e.MAS 5 Prime and e.MAS 5 Premium come with a rear-wheel drive, and both models feature a multi-link rear setup with MacPherson struts at the front.

Interior

The interior of the e.MAS 5 Prime and e.MAS 5 Premium features leatherette seats, both front and back, in white. The centerpiece is a 14.6-inch high-definition touchscreen with an automotive-grade processor. The vehicles support Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and voice recognition in English and Malay via Proton’s ATLAS Auto system. The interior also boasts design touches such as a crystal-style gear selector and a two-tone steering wheel.

The e.MAS 5 Prime and e.MAS 5 Premium offer ample storage, with 32 compartments around the cabin, a 375-liter boot space that can be expanded to 1,320 liters with the seats folded, and a 70-liter front trunk (frunk) with hydraulic struts.

Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)

The e.MAS 5 Prime and e.MAS 5 Premium are equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), including features like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Front Vehicle Departure (FVD), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Door Opening Warning (DOW). The vehicles are also equipped with six airbags for enhanced safety.

Notable Features

The e.MAS 5 Premium comes with additional features such as an integrated live charging map and support for the e.MAS App. It also features Bahasa Malaysia's voice assistant, Aishah. It is unclear whether the manual adjusters for the seats, a feature present in the pre-production unit of the e.MAS 5 Premium, will be present in the final version of the vehicle. The e.MAS 5 Premium will also have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto at launch, with both wired and wireless connections. The e.MAS 5 Premium will also feature a dual-tone roof, contrary to the monotone unit on display. The e.MAS 5 Premium is equipped with a 6-speaker audio system.

The e.MAS 5 Prime and e.MAS 5 Premium are positioned as practical, tech-savvy, budget-conscious EVs suitable for urban use and small families, emphasizing range efficiency, interior practicality, and basic advanced safety features.
