Google's AI Mode to Become Default Search Experience Soon

Google's AI Mode, currently available in 180 countries, will become the default search experience 'soon', according to Logan Kilpatrick, lead product manager. This shift, which users can already access via google.com/ai, may significantly impact SEO strategies. However, Google VP Robby Stein clarified that the 'soon' statement should not be overinterpreted, as the focus remains on making AI Mode more accessible for users who wish to use it.

AI Mode, launched in 2021, offers a more AI-like interface, aiding complex queries that require deeper exploration. It uses a 'query fan-out' technique to provide a broader and deeper range of information than traditional Google searches. AI Mode supports multimodal searching with text, voice, and images, and offers conversational follow-up questions. However, tracking AI Mode data in Search Console may be challenging, as it will be grouped with normal search data.

The default shift to AI Mode may require SEOs to adapt and experiment with new strategies. Google's AI Mode has recently expanded to include the UK, India, and the US, indicating a growing global presence.

Google's AI Mode, with its advanced query capabilities and multimodal support, is set to become the default search experience 'soon'. While the exact timeline remains unclear, SEOs should prepare for this shift and consider how to adapt their strategies to this new search landscape.
