GM Vehicles Ditch Swiping for EV Connect's Plug-and-Charge Feature

General Motors (GM) has partnered with EV Connect to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) ownership experience and drive EV adoption further. With this collaboration, GM EV drivers now have access to approximately 3,500 EV Connect public chargers across the United States.

The collaboration aims to relieve GM EV drivers from one of the most common friction points of the charging process. The Plug and Charge technology, now available on GM vehicle brand apps, allows drivers to start charging by simply plugging in their vehicle at a participating station.

Drivers who opt-in through a one-time enrollment within a GM vehicle brand app can use Plug and Charge-enabled stations. These stations can be located using a filter in the app. This innovative technology also enables contact-free payments after fueling, making the charging process more convenient and efficient.

EV Connect provides charging solutions at GM dealerships across North America and is part of GM's holistic public charging ecosystem. The company offers advanced data analytics and 24/7 customer support.

The announcement comes as EV Connect has announced the availability of Plug and Charge on the EV Connect network. More Plug and Charge capable charging stations are expected to be added regularly for GM drivers throughout 2024, although the exact number is not specified.

GM drivers can now charge their vehicles on the EV Connect network without using payment cards or RFID tags at nearly 200 DC fast chargers nationwide. The EV Connect website is mentioned as a source for more information.

This collaboration is a significant step towards making EV ownership more accessible and convenient for drivers. It is anticipated that this partnership will contribute to the continued growth and adoption of electric vehicles in the United States.
