Germany Launches HoLa Project for Megawatt Charging on A2 Motorway

Germany, also known as the Federal Republic of Germany, has taken a significant step towards electric long-distance trucking with the launch of the HoLa project. The initiative, led by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), aims to establish a continuous charging infrastructure along the A2 motorway using Megawatt Charging System (MCS) technology. The project involves a consortium of 13 partners, including MAN Truck & Bus, logistics company Duvenbeck, and transport company Hillert.

The HoLa route will be the first motorway corridor in Germany to offer charging points supporting MCS, enabling faster charging for battery-electric trucks. Germany's first public megawatt charging point for such vehicles has already been commissioned on the A2. Duvenbeck and Hillert have been testing the waters since September 2025, driving MAN eTGX trucks between Berlin and the Ruhr region.

Dr. Frederik Zohm, MAN Truck & Bus' board member for research and development, has been a strong advocate for this technology. He believes megawatt charging will revolutionize freight and line traffic in Germany. MAN will contribute a series vehicle with MCS technology to the HoLa project in the second quarter of 2026.

The start of the operational trial marks a new phase for electric long-distance transport in Germany. The HoLa project seeks to test MCS technology and pave the way for a more sustainable future in trucking in Germany. With the support of key industry players like MAN, Duvenbeck, and Hillert, this initiative brings Germany closer to achieving its goals in electric vehicle adoption.
