German Motorists: Update First Aid Kits and Safety Gear to Avoid Fines
German motorists are reminded to update their first watch kits and safety equipment to meet the latest standards. Fines await those with incomplete or expired kits, and new items like the V16 warning beacon are now recommended.
First watch kits must now include two medical masks, thanks to the updated DIN 13164 standard. Previously, only one was required. Additionally, the contents have been reduced, with fewer triangular bandages and one less dressing. Despite these changes, it's crucial to replace sterile products before their expiration to ensure they're effective in emergencies.
The warning triangle, a mandatory safety item, must now comply with the ECE R27 standard. It should be portable, stable, and reflective. For added visibility, motorists are advised to use the V16 warning beacon alongside the triangle. While not a replacement, the beacon makes the car visible from a greater distance.
Each vehicle must have one high-visibility vest, but experts suggest keeping one for each seat. These vests should meet the DIN EN 20471 standard for necessary luminosity and reflective strips. Moreover, the insurance company HUK-Coburg recommends having at least one additional flare in vehicles.
Failure to comply with these updated standards can result in a warning fine of up to ten euros. Motorists are urged to check their first watch kits and safety equipment regularly, replacing expired items and replenishing any missing materials. While older kits do not need immediate replacement, it's essential to ensure they're fully stocked and up-to-date.
