German Federal Police Prepared for Advanced Technological Advancements
The 190th Oktoberfest in Munich is just around the corner, and the Federal Police are ready to ensure the safety of travelers in the railway area. From September 20th to October 3rd, up to 220 federal police officers will be deployed at peak times, supported by officers from across Germany.
The main focus areas for the operation are Munich Central Station, the Hacker Bridge, and the S-Bahn trunk line. The Federal Police Inspectorate Munich, responsible for police safety and criminal prosecution in the area of Deutsche Bahn facilities and the largest German S-Bahn network, will lead the operation.
A new addition to the security measures this year is the use of a multisensor vehicle. Equipped with advanced thermal imaging, laser technology, and real-time video processing, this vehicle is designed to quickly and reliably detect trespassing on tracks, even in difficult light and weather conditions.
To maintain a safe travel environment, an ordinance prohibits the carrying of dangerous objects, weapons, and knives of all kinds in the main, Ost, and Pasing stations, as well as at the S-Bahn "Wiesn stop" at the Hacker Bridge during Oktoberfest.
Inspector Steffen Quaas advises keeping valuables locked in inner pockets, keeping handbags closed, and never leaving money or phones unattended. Unnecessary items should be left at home or stored in lockers at Munich's main train stations, including the main station, Ostbahnhof, and Pasing.
The Federal Police will also be responsible for ensuring the safety of arriving and departing guests during the Oktoberfest. To guide visitor flows during peak times, a Sound Truck at the Hacker Bridge will create a relaxed atmosphere with music and announcements.
Experienced thefts of valuables significantly increase during Oktoberfest, with thieves taking advantage of crowds and intoxicated individuals. The Federal Police conduct personal checks during Oktoberfest, always within necessary limits, and officers are available as direct points of contact for problems or suspicious observations.
The operation will be focused on maintaining safe travel to and from the Oktoberfest. The Federal Police will ensure the safety of guests in the railway area during the event, which is considered the world's largest folk festival.
The Munich forces will receive support from colleagues across Germany during the Oktoberfest. With the deployment planning for the Federal Police operation already completed, everyone is set for a safe and enjoyable Oktoberfest 2023.
