German Authorities Crack Down on FlyHosting DDoS-for-Hire Service
German authorities have taken significant action against cybercrime, serving eight search warrants on March 30 and identifying five suspects aged 16-24. The suspects are believed to have been operating FlyHosting, a dark web service facilitating DDoS attacks since mid-2021.
FlyHosting was used to disrupt various companies' and Hesse police's websites. Authorities seized servers operated by the suspects in Germany, Finland, and the Netherlands, along with mobile phones, laptops, tablets, storage media, and handwritten notes. The service first advertised its services on cybercrime forums in November 2022. This action follows a similar move by the U.S. Department of Justice in December 2022, where they seized 48 DDoS-for-hire domains and charged six men with related computer crimes.
The German investigation into FlyHosting highlights the global effort to combat DDoS-for-hire services. The seized equipment and notes will provide valuable insights into the suspects' activities and potentially disrupt further cybercrime operations.
