Fujifilm Unveils GFX ETERNA 55: A New Gateway to Premium Cinema
Fujifilm has unveiled the GFX ETERNA 55, a new large-format cinema camera set to launch in October 2025. Priced at $16,500 USD, this purpose-built system promises a sense of grandeur and immersion similar to IMAX or 65mm film, serving as a gateway into premium cinema.
The GFX ETERNA 55 boasts an impressive 44 × 33 mm, 102-megapixel CMOS II HS sensor with a 4:3 open gate format, providing more vertical information in every frame. It supports multiple shooting modes, including GF open gate, GF DCI, Premista, 35mm DCI, anamorphic 8K, and Super35.
The camera merges Fujifilm's legacy in film stocks and color science with a large-format digital cinema platform. It offers 20 Film Simulations and supports the import of up to 16 custom 3D LUTs, providing rich tonal detail and artistic flexibility. Fujifilm's F-Log2 and F-Log2 C profiles deliver more than 14 stops of dynamic range, capturing extensive detail in highlights and shadows.
The GFX ETERNA 55 records Apple ProRes 422 HQ, 422, LT, and Proxy internally, along with HEVC/H.265, and can output 12-bit RAW over HDMI. It also supports Frame.io Camera to Cloud, enabling direct footage upload to shared storage environments for distributed productions.
The GFX ETERNA 55, weighing 2 kg (4.4 pounds), features dual side monitors, a 2000-nit 5-inch LCD, and hot-swappable external power while maintaining an internal NP-W235 battery. Despite its high price point, this camera is designed to appeal to filmmakers seeking a premium cinema experience, offering a wealth of features and advanced capabilities.
