French Start-up Launches Esquisse Camera: A Compact, Retro Mirrorless Option
A French start-up is set to launch the Esquisse Camera, a compact, interchangeable-lens mirrorless camera aiming to fill the gap left by small, pocketable models like the Panasonic Lumix GM1. Expected in Q4 2026, it will retail for $1,500-2,000 or £1,500-2,000.
The Esquisse Camera boasts a 20MP Micro Four Thirds sensor with an ISO range of 200-25,600. It stands out with dedicated dials for exposure compensation and ISO, and a clickable rear wheel for aperture and shutter control. Despite its small size, under 350 grams and smaller than a deck of cards, it packs a weather-sealed body, a 3.69 million-dot viewfinder, and a fixed 3-inch touchscreen. Notably, it lacks video capabilities, focusing solely on still photography. Connectivity includes USB-C, WiFi, and Bluetooth, but no hotshoe.
The Esquisse Camera is designed to be a 'carry-everywhere' camera, combining craftsmanship with cutting-edge imaging technology. Its launch in late 2026 will offer photographers a high-quality, minimalist retro option in the Micro Four Thirds system.
