Foldable Samsung devices receive initial software update soon after their release

The newly launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE are making waves in the tech world, particularly with their focus on security enhancements in the initial software updates.

Rolling out just before or after the devices’ retail launch, these updates bring the July 2025 security patch and strengthen the devices’ protection against known vulnerabilities. The updates are backed by One UI 8 and are not reversible, as users will not be able to downgrade to an older software version.

Key security improvements include Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP 21), which creates encrypted, app-specific storage areas within the secure storage, ensuring each app accesses only its own sensitive data. This strengthens app data isolation.

Another significant enhancement is the Knox Matrix advancement, which delivers more proactive and user-friendly cross-device protection across the Galaxy ecosystem, improving threat detection and response.

The updates also integrate post-quantum cryptography in Secure Wi-Fi, strengthening network security by securing the key exchange process in encrypted connections, thus protecting users even on public Wi-Fi networks with quantum-resistant encryption techniques.

Samsung has pledged a long-term commitment to device security, promising seven years of major Android and One UI updates, and at least four years of monthly security patches for these foldables.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE have received their first updates, and are available through major carriers and in physical stores, in addition to Samsung's website. The updates can be initiated by navigating to "Settings" > "Software update" > "Download and install" or "Check for new update."

The Galaxy Z Fold 7, in particular, has seen remarkable sales, selling nearly 50% faster than its predecessor. Both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 have already surpassed last year's models by over 25%. Preorder deals for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 are still available, but they may not last long.

While the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has not undergone significant changes in its camera hardware, the cover display makes the main camera usable for selfies, delivering solid photo performance. The update for these devices is approximately 550 MB in size.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE are currently available for sale nationwide, making it an exciting time for tech enthusiasts and Samsung fans alike. The updates may vary based on the country, model, or network of the user.

The updates for the recently launched Samsung devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE, bring improvements to their security features. These updates incorporate technologies like smartphones, given the devices' focus, and gadgets such as Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP 21) and Knox Matrix advancement, which reinforces app data isolation, enhances cross-device protection, and strengthens network security through post-quantum cryptography in Secure Wi-Fi.
