Florida's New Desk Trooper Program Revolutionizes Minor Crash Response

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) are teaming up to launch the Desk Trooper program. This innovative initiative aims to enhance highway safety, reduce roadside risks, and minimise traffic disruptions caused by minor car crashes.

The Desk Trooper program enables troopers to respond to minor crashes virtually, using interactive technology. Instead of physically attending every incident, troopers can now connect remotely to view the scene, assess vehicle damage, and interview drivers and witnesses. This approach helps clear incidents more efficiently and frees up resources for higher-priority situations.

Major Mark Castleberry of the Florida Highway Patrol believes this program will significantly improve safety. He anticipates that it will allow troopers to handle more cases and reduce the time spent on minor incidents, thereby decreasing traffic congestion. The pilot phase of this program will run for two years, during which feedback will be gathered to refine and improve the system.

The Desk Trooper program is set to revolutionise how minor car crashes are handled in Florida. By enabling virtual responses, it promises to enhance safety, reduce roadside risks, and minimise traffic disruption. The FHP and CFX will pilot this program over the next two years, with the aim of making highways safer and more efficient.
