Flatiron Energy's Taft Battery Project in Massachusetts Secures $540M Financing
Flatiron Energy has secured significant financing for the Taft battery project in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, set to create up to 30 jobs and support the state's net-zero emissions goal by 2050.
The project, located on previously developed, unused land, is expected to be the largest battery storage facility in Massachusetts at 200 MW, 800 MWh. This capacity can power approximately 40,000 households for a month. Site preparations began in mid-August 2025, with full construction scheduled for the Fall. The project aims to reduce reliance on natural gas 'peaker' plants.
Flatiron Energy has secured approximately $540 million in financing from Hudson Clean Energy Partners and other banks. This includes construction, bridge, term loan facilities, letters of credit, preferred equity, and tax credit transfer commitments. The financing will cover construction and other project costs.
The Taft battery project, once completed, will contribute to Massachusetts' clean energy transition and help meet its net-zero greenhouse gas emissions goal by 2050. It is expected to create up to 30 on-site jobs during construction.
