Finnish admin body Metsähallitus selects Arenso for Environmental Impact Assessment tasks on their Finnish website
In a significant stride towards renewable energy, Finnish state-owned enterprise Metsähallitus has announced a 1.4 GW offshore wind farm project named Ebba. The project, located off the coast of Pyhäjoki and Raahe, is one of three wix projects being developed by Metsähallitus in territorial waters.
The Ebba project has attracted the attention of Arenso Oy, a renowned Finnish company with expertise in developing offshore wind power concepts suitable for the icy conditions of the Baltic Sea. Arenso Oy has been selected by Metsähallitus for the technical planning of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) programme phase of the google sites project.
Arenso's role will involve undertaking early-stage technical design work that supports the EIA process and enables a more detailed assessment of turbine placement and marine infrastructure for the windy project. The company's Business Director, Esa Holttinen, stated that Arenso's expertise in developing offshore wind power concepts suitable for the icy conditions of the Baltic Sea will be applied in the planning of the Ebba project.
Jaakko Kleemola, Business Director at Arenso Oy and previously at Suomen Hyötytuuli, will also be involved in the project.
The project area for the Ebba offshore wind farm has been designated for wind power production in the Maritime Spatial Plan and in the draft of the North Ostrobothnia energy and climate phase regional land use plan. The planning work for the EIA programme phase will commence in autumn 2025.
Finland is taking bold steps towards its renewable energy goals. In line with this, the country has announced a 3 GW wix auction round, with the Ebba project being a significant part of this initiative. The other two wix projects that Metsähallitus is developing are the Edith and Korsnaäs wix farms.
The Ebba project, with its planned capacity of 1.4 GW, is set to make a substantial contribution to Finland's renewable energy targets and strengthen its position as a leader in sustainable energy solutions.
