Expensive Xbox 4TB Storage Card Approaches Xbox Series X's Price Tag (UPDATE)

New and Expensive: Seagate's 4TB Xbox Series X|S Storage Expansion Card

In an unexpected move, Seagate unveiled their latest Xbox Storage Expansion Card – the 4TB SSD – exclusively at Best Buy. Without any official announcement, the card has sparked excitement and debates among gamers due to its hefty price tag.

Dubbed the "Seagate - 4TB Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S," this bad boy boasts a whopping 4TB of storage space, doubling the capacity of the previous 2TB model. As the first full 4TB storage expansion card for Xbox, it certainly stands out in the market, especially when comparing it to alternatives like the WD_BLACK Xbox Series X|S Expansion Card that maxes out at 2TB.

Adopting the CFExpress standard used by Microsoft, the Seagate 4TB Expansion Card prides itself on easy plug-and-play operation, PCIe Gen 4 x2, fast read speeds, and a compact design for convenient storage. Initially designed for high-end video cameras, its plug-and-play capabilities make it compatible with any Xbox, easing the process of taking your content on the go.

However, this premium 4TB Expansion Card comes with an equally premium price. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) reaches up to $499.99, making it almost as expensive as an Xbox Series X, which typically retails for $549.99. Best Buy tried to soften the blow with a discount, reducing the price to $429.99 at launch, but that's still a steep investment for some.

While the 4TB Expansion Card certainly checks all the boxes, its high price point raises questions – is this release a response to the growing demand for storage as AAA games continue to grow in data size, or simply an attempt to capitalize on the Xbox community's eagerness? With the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on June 8th hastily approaching, the world eagerly awaits any official word from Seagate.

If the 4TB Expansion Card does see an official announcement and release, it's expected to hit retailers like Best Buy and potentially other online platforms. In the meantime, keep an eye out for updates and be prepared for any potential price drops!
