Get ready to hit the slopes and trails in style, Steinach inhabitants! With a hefty price tag of 9.3 million euros, the Leisure Ski and Bike Arena Silbersattel is undergoing a massive revamp.
At a groundbreaking ceremony, the city's independent mayor, Udo Bätz, announced the replacement of the current two-person gondolas with a state-of-the-art six-person chairlift. The old lift has already been dismantled, making way for the new facility, including an integrated mountain bike rack. The expansion project is set for completion by October.
The upgrades don't stop there – the parking lot is also expanding, and a new ski run will make its debut. By winter, you'll be skiing under the city's auspices, according to the mayor, who stepped in last year to save the arena after its previous operator filed for insolvency. A new operator is still being sought.
Due to the construction work, the biking Area will be closed this summer, but fear not, cyclists! The expansion plans include additional bike trails, as well as the acquisition of new snow cannons and a cooling tower for water by 2026. The overall revamp is estimated to cost approximately 15.6 million euros, with around 14.3 million euros coming from the state.
