Expanding staff at JSA as IndusLaw's dispute team in Delhi transfers

J. Sagar Associates (JSA), a leading law firm in India, has announced the addition of a new disputes team to its ranks. The team, led by partner Padmaja Kaul, joined JSA in Delhi.

Kaul has extensive experience in the telecom sector, having advised various telecom giants in their disputes. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge in contentious exits, shareholder disputes, insolvency, winding up, white collar crimes, and employment disputes and investigations. Kaul has around 14 years of experience in advising clients in commercial disputes.

The addition of this team marks the continued aggressive expansion of JSA. The firm's strong institutional culture, disciplined approach to legal practice, and established reputation for managing complex client relationships across sectors and jurisdictions have been key factors driving high-profile partner shifts to JSA in 2024. Partners value JSA's emphasis on structured teamwork, thorough presentation of legal advice, and a supportive work environment fostered by visionary leadership.

The new team, which includes Principal Associate Yugank Goel, is expected to strengthen JSA's disputes practice. Kaul's expertise and experience are expected to provide valuable insights and solutions to clients facing complex commercial disputes.

JSA's expansion in 2024 also includes the addition of a four-lawyer group from IndusLaw in Delhi and a seven-lawyer team from DSK Legal in Bengaluru. Senior Associate Kushagra Sah and Associate Vansh Bhutani are part of the teams that joined JSA.

The majority of the partners joining JSA are from closely held and/or family-run law firms. This trend reflects JSA's commitment to providing a meritocratic setup and strategic independence, which are driving more partners to the firm.

In addition to its disputes practice, JSA has been actively involved in significant deals, such as advising prominent investment funds on strategic transactions. This robust and expanding transactional practice, combined with JSA's recognition as a top deal advisor in the APAC region, suggests growing market influence and deal flow opportunities. These factors can be motivating for partners considering a move to JSA.

Recently, M&A giant Iqbal Khan joined JSA with a team of 20. The firm's continued growth and expansion are indicative of its strength and potential in the Indian legal market.

With the addition of the new disputes team led by Padmaja Kaul, JSA is well-positioned to continue its growth trajectory and provide top-tier legal services to its clients.

  1. Padmaja Kaul's expertise in real estate law, shareholder disputes, and white collar crimes, coupled with her knowledge of finance and technology, will undoubtedly bolster JSA's disputes practice.
  2. Law firms, such as IndusLaw and DSK Legal, are increasingly recognizing the meritocratic setup and strategic independence offered by JSA, leading to a trend of partners moving to the firm.
  3. JSA's robust transactional practice, as evidenced by its involvement in significant deals and recognition as a top deal advisor in the APAC region, offers potential for partners seeking growth and deal flow opportunities in the finance and business sectors.
