Expanding its presence in Vietnam, Coherent dedicates $127 million to establish a factory in Dong Nai

In a significant move for both global technology development and Vietnam's position in the international semiconductor supply chain, the US-based company Coherent Corporation has inaugurated a new $127 million semiconductor plant in Dong Nai province, Vietnam.

The state-of-the-art facility, located at Nhon Trach Industrial Park, produces critical components for the evolving global tech landscape. These include silicon carbide semiconductors, optical glass, and high-tech equipment. These components are essential for powering industrial systems, high-speed communications, and data center infrastructure, key components in the global tech landscape.

This plant marks a pivotal milestone in Vietnam’s integration into the global high-tech value chain. By expanding Coherent’s manufacturing footprint in Vietnam—its third factory in the country—the company is strengthening its capacity to serve the growing Asia-Pacific market with improved supply chain resilience and shorter delivery times.

For Vietnam, this investment validates its efforts to attract strategic, high-value semiconductor investments. The government encourages Coherent to further deepen technology transfer, R&D, and partnerships with universities and research institutions to foster an innovation ecosystem and sustainable tech development.

The three projects registered by Coherent Corporation in Dong Nai have a combined registered capital of nearly $1 billion. These projects, which also include advanced optics and the M-Cubed project for measurement, testing, and semiconductor component production, are expected to generate over $1.2 billion annually.

The factory is equipped with smart manufacturing systems and a high-quality local workforce. Gan YC, director of Nhon Trach 1 Factory, spoke about building a world-class manufacturing and innovation center for Coherent Corporation.

The inauguration of Coherent Corporation's new factory in Vietnam is seen as a significant step forward in its global growth strategy. DPM Dung noted that the plant's inauguration coincides with the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations.

This reflects a broader trend of Vietnam becoming a crucial hub for global semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing. By prioritizing selective and high-quality foreign investment projects in areas such as high technology, semiconductors, AI, research and development, digital and green transformation, and clean energy, Vietnam is positioning itself as a strategic base for leading global technology firms like NVIDIA, Apple, Google, Qualcomm, Intel, Meta, and now Coherent itself.

In summary, Coherent’s Dong Nai plant: - Enhances production of advanced semiconductor materials essential for global tech industries. - Boosts Vietnam’s position as a key, strategic player in the international semiconductor supply chain. - Supports local industrial upgrading, workforce development, and innovation capacity building. - Strengthens supply chain resilience and Asia market access for Coherent and its partners.

The new factory is designed with scalability, flexibility, and sustainability in mind, embodying Coherent Corporation's commitment to responsible and forward-thinking manufacturing practices.

The new semiconductor plant, inaugurated by Coherent Corporation in Dong Nai province, Vietnam, is a key part of its global growth strategy, investing in the technology sector of the country to strengthen its capacity to serve the Asia-Pacific market. The state-of-the-art facility produces essential components for the global tech landscape, such as silicon carbide semiconductors, optical glass, and high-tech equipment, which are vital for powering industrial systems, high-speed communications, data center infrastructure, and various financial applications in the business world.
