A Glimpse at the Specs

The Tineco A30S's spec sheet caught our eye with its unique features, including an intelligent sensor to adjust suction power and inform the user of the dirt level in real-time. It's also complemented by a multi-cyclone filtration system and an anti-tangle system, among other things.

Ergonomics: A Taste for Simplicity (3/5)

The A30S doesn't disappoint in the unboxing process, offering a well-crafted design. With its monochrome look and smooth, rounded lines, it exudes a certain confidence. Although quality parts and assembly are apparent, flaws such as minor "play" between some parts and noisy wheels can be detected.

© Benoit Campion for our site Speaking of which, the A30S lacks a sophisticated parking system—whether folded or upright. A wall mount and screws are provided for storage against the wall. Navigating the A30S (which weighs around 3.1 kg in stick mode) isn't effortless, but its weight distribution is sufficient for maneuverability, especially with the significant pivot between the tube and the suction head. Handy handles offer a secure grip for dusting under furniture.

© Benoit Campion for our site The A30S goes for a minimalist approach, with its control panel consisting only of an on/off button, suction mode switch, and a cleanliness level LED. This straightforward approach has pros and cons: while users won't be overwhelmed with unnecessary information, several drawbacks arise. For instance, it's impossible to accurately track the remaining battery life or select continuous or intermittent operation.

Accessories: Bare Essentials (2/5)

The A30S arrives with only the bare minimum: a single long crevice tool/soft brush accessory. More options for attachment would have been appreciated, especially considering Tineco offers a pack of 4 additional accessories for less than 30 euros.

Suction Performance: A Pleasant Surprise (4.5/5)

The A30S's single brush head suggested average performance, but it completely defied expectations, providing surprising suction power on both hard floors and low-pile carpets. The integrated detection mode works impressively, boosting power when necessary. Though it takes more effort to clean long-haired rugs thoroughly, the A30S still delivers satisfactory results.

Noise: Turbulence on Hard Floors (2.5/5)

The A30S produces noise on hard floors due to the troublesome suction head. The sound levels remain low while used as a handheld vacuum, but on hard floors in stick vacuum mode, noise levels sharply increase to around 78 dB (A) at 1 meter. The sound is fatiguing for both the user and others in the room.

Battery Life: Limited Runtime (2.5/5)

Tineco claims the A30S can run for up to 1 hour, but this is only in Eco mode without the motorized suction head. For more realistic use, the A30S offers a battery life ranging from approximately 35 minutes to 11 minutes, with an average of 18 minutes in Auto mode and stick configuration. The vacuum requires over 3.5 hours to charge once completely drained.

Maintenance: Top-tier Filtration, Effortless Upkeep (4.5/5)

The A30S's multi-cyclonic filtration has proven its worth, with the HEPA filter remaining intact after a week of intensive use and stress testing. Monthly maintenance will keep the vacuum performing optimally. Anti-tangle technology significantly reduces the risk of hair tangling within the brush.

Disassembly and access to different parts for maintenance are straightforward without tools. Although the collector doesn't have a sophisticated opening system, a lever is used to drop the bottom without removing the collector from the main block, efficiently expelling dust bunnies.

Two Worthy Alternatives

  1. Xiaomi G20 Max: At roughly the same price, the G20 Max offers a well-rounded overall performance, even if its battery is non-removable and durability concerns have been reported.
  2. Ultenic U16 Flex: If your budget is particularly tight, the U16 Flex, though less performant than the A30S in terms of suction and filtration, still offers credible overall performance at a more affordable price.

The Verdict: A Balanced Bet

The A30S isn't perfect, with limitations arising from cost-cutting measures such as restricted battery life and a too-simple interface. However, performance in terms of suction and filtration is commendable for a budget stick vacuum. It's up to you to weigh the drawbacks according to your household needs.

  • Ergonomics: 3/5
  • Accessories: 2/5
  • Suction performance: 4.5/5
  • Noise: 2.5/5
  • Battery life: 2.5/5
  • Maintenance: 4.5/5
  • For those seeking a budget-friendly home-and-garden item, the Tineco A30S stick vacuum offers a minimalist lifestyle label, complete with an intelligent sensor to monitor suction power and dirt level.
  • When it comes to shopping for technology, the A30S provides a respectable battery life and solid suction performance, although noise and limited accessories might be considerations.
