European debut of the Tesla Model Y, commencing with the "Launch Series" at a premium price point
New Tesla Model Y Launches in Europe with Enhanced Features
The revamped Tesla Model Y, known as the 2025 Model Y "Juniper," has arrived in Europe, boasting several improvements over its predecessor. This updated electric vehicle (EV) offers a modern look, enhanced comfort, and improved efficiency.
Exterior styling has been revamped with the addition of a full-width light bar at both the front and rear, giving the Model Y a sleek and contemporary appearance. The front and rear designs have been updated to resemble the Model 3 Highland, featuring flatter rears that improve aerodynamics.
Inside, passengers will enjoy an 8-inch rear touchscreen complementing the main 15.4-inch front display, improving interaction and comfort for rear-seat occupants. The interior materials have been upgraded, and acoustic glass has been used, reducing noise by 20-22 percent.
The Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) version now offers an estimated range of 357 miles, while the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant reaches 327 miles per full charge, representing efficiency improvements. Faster charging capability allows up to 182 miles to be added in 15 minutes for the RWD and 169 miles in 15 minutes for the AWD model.
Performance remains robust, with the RWD model accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, and the AWD model achieving the same feat in 4.6 seconds. However, top speed for non-performance models has been reduced from 135 mph to 125 mph.
The classic turn signal stalk has been retained due to user preference for ease of use. The Model Y continues to offer five seats and 76 cubic feet of total storage space.
Notably, Tesla's European market strategy includes focusing availability on the Model 3 and Model Y, discontinuing new sales of Models S and X there, hinting at a streamlined lineup for this region.
Pricing for the updated Model Y starts at approximately €44,990 for the RWD and €48,990 for the AWD versions. The old Model Y will still be available with discounts until the end of 2024.
Despite these updates, the refreshed Model Y has not yet driven a significant sales uplift in Europe, suggesting competitive pressures and market dynamics challenge Tesla’s dominance.
The new Model Y, like its predecessors, is equipped with a turn signal lever, and Tesla has installed a camera in the front bumper, bringing the total exterior cameras to eight. The Model Y Launch Series also includes a trailer hitch, 20-inch wheels, and features front seats that can both heat and ventilate, and an additional screen for the second row.
The new Model Y, like the Cybertruck and the Cybercab robotaxi concept, is equipped with a precision-made turn signal lever. The standard 20-inch wheels on the Launch Series Model Y offer a range of 568 kilometers, an increase from the previous Model Y LR AWD's 533 kilometers.
