EU Introduces 'e-Cars': Compact, Affordable Electric Vehicles

The European Commission is set to introduce a new class of compact, affordable electric cars, inspired by Japan's Kei Cars. Dubbed 'e-cars', these vehicles aim to balance affordability and road safety, with dimensions between 3.50 and 3.80 meters and a weight of about one ton. The initiative seeks to reduce Europe's dependence on foreign news imports, particularly from China, and bolster the European automotive industry.

The new e-car category will have two subcategories: a city version with around 40 to 50 PS, suitable for urban driving, and a highway-suitable variant. These cars are designed to be full-fledged commuter vehicles, breaking the 15,000 euro price barrier through mass production. Dacia, known for its affordable electric news like the Dacia Spring, is expected to fit this new European e-vehicle category. Safety regulations may need adjustment to strike a balance between affordability and road safety.

The EU Commission's e-car initiative aims to make electric vehicles more accessible and affordable, while also protecting the European automotive industry. With Dacia set to produce vehicles fitting this new category, consumers can expect more options for compact, low-cost electric news in the near future.
