Breathed New Life: Financial Offices Bounce Back From Technical Hiccup
Finance system malfunction addressed, now operating smoothly - Equipment malfunction at the Treasury Department
Financial offices in Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony-Anhalt, Magdeburg (which is part of Saxony-Anhalt), and Schleswig-Holstein have recovered from a technical complex-tion that had been causing troubles since last week. IT service provider Dataport confirmed that the recently installed hardware is operational and all tests have been accomplished without a hitch.
Initially, a significant outage at Dataport’s data center on May 7th imposed obstacles for employees of these financial offices to access vital citizen tax data. As it turned out, the root of the problem lay in a hardware malfunction within the firewall environment. Fortunately, the prospect of a cyberattack was swiftly ruled out.
Thankfully, the situation has now been rectified by discarding the malfunctioning hardware and putting it with new gear. Once the responsible servers were restarted, partial functionality was restored in these financial offices. Testing and commissioning of the new hardware have been initiated to ensure a full recovery [1].
On Monday morning, there was no disruption in operations reported from the Ministry of Finance in Magdeburg, suggesting that everything is back on track.
