Electric vehicle manufacturing giant Ola surpasses the 1 millionth unit production mark within a span of four years
In just four years, Ola Electric has become India's leading electric two-wheeler manufacturer, with ambitious plans to end the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) era and establish India as a global EV hub. This rapid growth is a testament to the vision of its founder, Bhavish Aggarwal.
The journey began in 2021 with the launch of the S1 electric scooter range. Now, Ola Electric is expanding its lineup with the introduction of the Ola Roadster, a high-speed electric scooter that can reach speeds of 194 kmph, priced at ₹ 1.05 Lakhs.
For those seeking a more affordable option, the Ola Roadster X is available, with a top speed of 118 kmph and a price tag of ₹74,999. The Ola Roadster X+ special edition, launched in 2022, features badges crafted from recycled copper waste and electroplated bar ends, adding a touch of sustainability to its midnight blue paint scheme.
Ola Electric is also focusing on local production, integrating its locally made 4680 Bharat Cell batteries into its vehicles. The S1 Pro+, priced at ₹1.70 lakh, and the Roadster X+ 9.1 kWh, priced at ₹1.90 lakh, are the first to benefit from this initiative. The all-new S1 Pro Sport, with the new 4680 Bharat Cell, will be offered in the 4 kWh and 5.2 kWh battery pack options, with the introductory prices starting at ₹1.50 lakh.
Deliveries for the S1 Pro+ 5.2 kWh and Roadster X+ 9.1 kWh models are expected to begin soon, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Navratri. Deliveries for the new S1 Pro Sport are scheduled to start in January next year.
However, Ola Electric's journey has not been without controversy. Reports of reliability issues, fire incidents, and poor service have surfaced. The company will need to address these concerns to maintain its position as a leader in the EV market.
Competition is also heating up, with the Suzuki e Access and the Numeros Diplos Max Plus, both upcoming electric two-wheelers, projected to have top speeds of 71 kmph and 70 kmph, respectively, and prices ranging from ₹1.20 - 1.40 Lakhs and ₹1.21 Lakhs.
As Ola Electric continues to push the boundaries of electric mobility in India, it remains to be seen how it will navigate these challenges and maintain its leadership position in the rapidly evolving EV market.
