Efficient Heat Pump Leads to Lower Heating Expenses, Outperforming Gas Heating
A new analysis by Verivox, published in the Funke Media Group's Sunday newspapers, has shed light on the cost advantages of heat pumps compared to traditional gas heating systems. The analysis reveals that the financial benefits of heat pumps are likely to become even more significant in the coming years due to the rising CO2 price.
For a single-family home with an annual natural gas consumption of 20,000 kWh, the average annual heating costs are approximately 2,262 euros. However, by using an efficient heat pump with an annual efficiency ratio of 4, homeowners can halve these costs, paying an average of 1,337 euros nationwide for the same heating output. This represents a saving of 925 euros per year.
A less efficient heat pump with an annual efficiency ratio of 2.7 requires 7,500 kWh of electricity for the same heating output, resulting in annual heating costs of 2,000 euros. This is still a substantial saving of 284 euros compared to a gas heating system.
The efficiency of the heat pump system is a key factor in costs. The higher the annual efficiency ratio, the lower the electricity requirement and the greater the savings compared to fossil heating systems.
Thorsten Storck, energy expert at Verivox, emphasizes the importance of individual circumstances in heating system replacement. He recommends seeking thorough advice before purchasing a new heating system, as factors such as the insulation of the house and the suitability of heating bodies can affect the efficiency of heat pumps.
Gas heating systems are often cheaper to purchase than heat pumps, but the operating costs for heat pumps are usually lower. Households with heat pumps also benefit from lower network fees and grid surcharges.
Storck further states that the cost gap between gas heating systems and heat pumps is likely to widen further in the coming years due to the rising CO2 price. The Verivox analysis highlights the financial advantages of efficient heat pumps over gas heating systems, making a strong case for their consideration as a heating solution.
On-site advice can support the decision on the best heating solution and inform about various state and local funding programs. Homeowners who are considering switching from a gas heating system to an efficient heat pump for a single-family home are encouraged to seek advice and take advantage of the potential savings.
