Dubai Expands Support for Delivery Riders: 15 New Rest Areas Created to Alleviate Summer Heat Strain
In a bid to provide relief for delivery bike riders during the UAE's midday work ban, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has unveiled 15 new air-conditioned rest areas at key bus and metro stations across the city [1][2][3]. The move aims to offer a cool, shaded space for riders to rest during the peak heat hours, aligning with the Midday Work Ban that prohibits outdoor work between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM from June 15 to September 15.
## Key Features of the Initiative
The 15 new temporary rest areas complement the 40 existing permanent facilities, offering riders essential amenities such as water dispensers, mobile charging stations, and nearby motorbike parking [2]. Locations include Gold Souq, Al Satwa, Al Jafiliya, Oud Metha bus stations, and 11 metro station exits such as Al Qusais, e&, Emirates Towers, and others.
In addition to the rest areas, the RTA, in partnership with the UAE Food Bank and Deliveroo, is distributing 7,500 hot meals to delivery riders, recognising their critical role in Dubai's delivery sector [1][2].
## Purpose
The initiative is designed to improve road safety, enhance the quality of life for delivery riders, and support sustainability by reducing waste, while fostering public-private partnerships [1][3]. The partnerships also promote sustainability through collaboration with private and humanitarian partners, with the aim of regulating the delivery sector.
The exterior design of the shelters reduces sun exposure while maintaining visibility and insulation, making them an ideal solution for the harsh summer heat. The RTA's commitment to the welfare of delivery riders and the city's sustainability efforts is evident in this innovative initiative.
