Dodge Revives Iconic 5.7L Hemi V8 for Future Models

Dodge fans, rejoice! The iconic 5.7-litre Hemi V8 engine is making a comeback. Production has restarted at the Dundee Engine Plant in Michigan, with a resumption date set for September 22, 2025. This news follows Dodge's hint at a more favourable stance towards V8s within the company's leadership.

The Hemi's return comes after a six-month layoff, with hundreds of workers returning to ramp up full production. The engine, discontinued along with the Ram TRX and Challenger Hellcat models, will now power future Dodge vehicles. The company has not confirmed further details about the next-gen Charger lineup beyond 2025, but enthusiasts are hopeful.

Dodge engineers are currently working to integrate Hemi power into the all-new, fully-electric Dodge Charger. The Charger, currently available in all-electric versions with the new twin-turbo Hurricane inline six, will initially offer two outputs: 313kW Standard Output and 410kW High Output. Four-door Charger Daytona models are set to join them soon, with gas-powered versions arriving in late 2025. The 6.4-litre 'Apache' and supercharged 6.2-litre Hellcat V8s are also planned for production restart.

The restart of Hemi V8 production signals a promising future for Dodge enthusiasts. While details about the next-gen Charger lineup remain scarce, the company's commitment to V8s and integration of Hemi power into electric vehicles offers exciting prospects.
