Discussion: Unveiling the Power and Dramatic Turmoil Behind Diode's 'Radial' in an Exclusive Interview
Diode's Raw and Cinematic Sound Takes the Drum and Bass Scene by Storm
In the world of drum and bass, Diode's name is becoming synonymous with a unique, raw, and cinematic sound. With a focus on self-testing and learning, Diode's production style is characterised by heavily saturated beats, twisted basslines, and big distorted percussion, creating a bold and captivating sound.
Diode's latest EP, Radial, released in July 2025 on VTO Records, encapsulates this approach perfectly. The EP, Diode's first solo release for the label, combines thick beats with a gritty texture, and features a cinematic action team vibe with horror and tension elements. This style is a natural evolution from Diode's previous work, such as Brain Tag from Cells Interlinked Vol 2.
Being based in the US has given Diode's sound a unique flavour compared to the UK scene. The US drum and bass scene differs from the UK one, and this geographic and cultural context has influenced Diode's outlook and sound, pushing him toward a unique, uncompromising style that still respects the energy of the broader drum and bass culture but injects a cinematic and raw edge.
The EP consists of three tracks, including Radial Bomb, a track featuring big, thick beats and bass, and a lyrical hit called Bring the Bomb Squad. Brain Tag, a track that previously appeared on Cells Interlinked Vol 2, is also re-released on Radial.
Diode's workflow in FL Studio is fluid, non-static, and highly editable. This flexibility allows him to experiment and refine his sound, resulting in tracks that aim to mix with today's hitters while maintaining a balance of originality and intrigue.
In addition to Radial, Diode has collaborations with Subminderz, Gntlmn, Bad Syntax, Knoxz, Faux Realz, J Augustus, Burner Broa, and remixes for Inerpois, the Fi5th, J Augustus, and Astro. Dancefloor releases are coming on Manifest, and Diode has a split release on Dirtbox and a solo release coming on Warlock Audio.
When Diode is not in the studio, he finds contentment doing a chair dance to his own music. One drum and bass track he would take to a desert island is Noisia's Believe. With a long history in the music industry, dating back to the early 2000s, Diode continues to push boundaries and evolve his sound, making him a force to be reckoned with in the world of drum and bass.

Technology plays a significant role in Diode's music production process, as he uses FL Studio to create his distinct drum and bass tracks, offering him the flexibility to experiment and refine his unique sound for entertainment purposes. By combining technology with his raw, cinematic style, Diode's music captivates audiences and adds a new dimension to the mainstream drum and bass scene.
