Over a quarter of a century, an annual tech gathering has kept attendees coming back with its cutting-edge agenda. That's exactly what Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) has been doing, hosting the GLI Roundtable again this year, taking place at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas on April 16-17.

The event is a powerhouse, featuring keynote speeches from industry bigwigs, panel discussions, and sessions on sports betting, iGaming, cybersecurity, and illegal gambling. The talk of the town will be the "Innovation Tech Hub," showcasing technologies from Bulletproof, IXUP, Kobetron, Marbles.io, and PokerLab.

GLI's inaugural event brought together 30 regulators in a Denver conference room. This year promises over 300 attendees from all over the globe. According to Christie Eickelman, GLI's VP of Global Marketing, the Roundtable has never strayed from its goals.

"Our goal," she says, "is to present suppliers and manufacturers' latest tech from a technical standpoint, keeping in mind that every jurisdiction's rules and internal controls are unique."

Pulling from insights gathered throughout the year, GLI tailors the agenda to address regulators' current concerns, bringing in experts to discuss each technology or topic. Every year, they welcome a room full of new attendees.

"This is a peer-to-peer event where regulators can convene at a conference without sales pitches. It's all about facing everyday issues, learning from the past, and peeking into the future of technology," says Eickelman.

Over the years, GLI's Roundtable has expanded beyond industry-specific conferences by introducing elements designed to foster more entertainment and fun. For instance, the keynote speakers deliver messages that resonate with industry insiders, drawing crowds.

The 2011 Roundtable's first keynote speaker was Rep. Dina Titus, a UNLV Political Science Professor and member of the United States Civil Rights Commission. Over the years, keynote speakers have included Mark Eaton, NBA All-Star, motivational speaker and team building expert (2015); Lt. Colonel Kevin Sweeney (2016); Nate Silver, author and founder of FiveThirtyEight.com (2022), Jeffrey Ma, former VP of Analytics and Data Science for Twitter, predictive analytics expert for ESPN, Kingpin of the famous MIT Blackjack Team, and former vice president of Microsoft for Startups (2024); and Kerry Bubolz, President of the Vegas Golden Knights of the NHL (2018).

This year's keynote speaker is Molly Bloom, author of Molly's Game, known as the "Poker Princess" for organizing high-stakes underground poker games in L.A. that attracted A-List actors in the 2000s. Her book was also turned into a movie starring Jessica Chastain.

The event kicks off with a 5K run on April 16, featuring breakfast and networking opportunities before the start. The Innovation Tech Hub will be operating both days, offering regulators a chance to see the newest tech innovations in an educational setting.

James Maida, President and CEO of GLI, and Mackenzie Haugh, Chief Delivery Officer at GLI, will host a panel discussion on the "Top 10 Trends in Tech," setting the stage for a full two days of discussions led by industry leaders. Breakout sessions will provide opportunities for attendees to engage in smaller groups on technology and other industry topics in more detail.

Put simply, the GLI Roundtable offers regulators a chance to meet face-to-face, forge connections, and learn that they share common challenges.

"It's rewarding to see people returning, establishing deep and meaningful relationships. I've watched regulators attend all of them, who have since retired. Their long-term support for the event has been heart-warming," Eickelman concludes.
