Debut at High End Munich 2025: Chord Electronics showcases premium Ultima Phonostage

Scoop on the Chord Electronics Phonostage Hitting High End Munich 2025!

Yo, there's some buzz surrounding that next-level analogue gear Chord Electronics was teasing last week! It's none other than a phono stage, christened as the Ultima Phonostage[1][2].

The Ultima Phonostage is set to launch officially later on this year[1], so we're still waiting on the full lowdown and the final price tag[1]. But we've gotten an early peek at the goods, thanks to its unveiling at High End Munich[1].

This bad boy comes packing an advanced dual mono design and is laced with Chord's Ultima tech[2]. Able to handle both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges[2], it's customizable with selectable impedance (options for MM cartridges, and a range from 12ohm to 2200ohm for MC cartridges)[2], along with adjustable gain.

What's neat is that the Ultima Phonostage has that sweet feature of individually assignable inputs, which means it can be used with as many as three turntables or tonearms[2]. There are three XLR inputs and RCA inputs, and one output each[2]. Perks include a rumble filter, clipping detection, and gain boost[2].

The eye-catching design continues with the chassis, flaunting Chord Electronics' signature look[1], along with a glowing LED indicator in the middle and eye-popping VU meters[1].

Set to hit the market this year in black and silver finishes, if reports hold true, you might just need to spare around £18,000 to cop this phono preamp[1]. If so, it'd be going toe-to-toe with the superb five-star, £15,000 Vertere Calon we recently tested[1].

Stay tuned for more deets when the official release rolls out in a few months[1]. And don't forget to subscribe to our newsletter for the latest hi-fi, home cinema, tech news, reviews, and deals!
