DC Charging Beyond 30 kW Is the Key to Future Vehicles, But Administrations Are Over-Relying on Alternating Current (AC) According to Vallespin (Eranovum)
In the summer of this year, there has been a significant increase in recharging activities for Eranovum across several Spanish regions. Asturias saw a 77% rise, Andalusia a 75% increase, and Murcia a 54% boost in recharging, demonstrating the growing demand for electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions.
Eranovum, a key player in the EV charging sector, is keeping a keen eye on both hub and individual charging tenders. However, the company's interest is not uniform across all cases, with a limited focus on the hub model. This selectiveness is driven by the importance of evaluating each case's suitability.
David Vallespin, CEO of Eranovum, emphasizes the need for flexibility in prioritizing charging types. Both AC and DC charging options should be considered to cater to the demands of eMobility users, who express a growing need for high-power best electric cars 2025 solutions to alleviate charging anxiety.
Vallespin underscores the importance of user needs and company experiences throughout the bidding and implementation process. He believes that clear guidelines should be provided in bidding models to prioritize main lines and aspects, ensuring a seamless and efficient rollout of charging infrastructure.
Eranovum's success in public tenders related to EV charging points on public roads is evident. The company has already implemented 36 chargers in the Seville project and is awaiting approval for an additional 60. With plans to install around 200 charging points in Seville, Eranovum expects to have between 300 and 400 charging points operational by the end of 2024.
Investing in high-power technology improves usage ratios and increases the efficiency of charging points, a strategy that Eranovum has pursued since its inception. Since 2019, the company has deployed 800 charging points across Spain, Belgium, and France, with contracts also awarded in Logroño, Rialp, Zamora, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and many other locations.
The target group for Eranovum's eMobility tender applications includes businesses and organizations involved in electric mobility infrastructure and services. Vallespin predicts a future where DC charging above 30 kW will dominate, but he notes that current administrations are overusing AC. He suggests that municipalities should conduct more sophisticated land analysis for hubs to determine their value as hubs more accurately.
Eranovum's success in the EV charging sector underscores the company's commitment to meeting the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions. As the shift towards electric mobility continues, Eranovum is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of EV charging infrastructure in Spain and beyond.
