Customs Account-General of Nigeria Encourages Staff to Adopt Digital Technologies and Maintain Discipline
The Edo/Delta Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is currently focusing on digital tools and ongoing training to fully adopt digitalisation in customs operations, aiming to improve efficiency and trade facilitation.
During a recent visit on July 30, 2025, the Zonal Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Sambo Dangaladima, emphasised the need for officers to maintain strict discipline, comply with regulations, and continuously build their skills through ongoing training at all levels.
ACG Dangaladima reiterated that modern customs operations require a digital approach to facilitate trade. He also instructed officers to fully embrace digital tools and urged them to continue building their skills to meet and surpass revenue targets.
The visit by ACG Sambo Dangaladima was not only for assessing the command's performance but also to address operational challenges, including infrastructure and manpower shortages. ACG Dangaladima assured the command that the service would work to address these issues.
The Edo/Delta Command has been successful in deploying the Unified Customs Management System and a localized platform called B'odogwu. Comptroller Judith Kanu reported that the command has generated ₦57.26 billion in revenue this year, with ₦30.89 billion collected between April and June 2025.
This digital focus aligns with broader NCS modernization efforts, exemplified by platforms like B’ODOGWU in other commands, which integrate customs and trade operations digitally for faster processing and accurate valuation. The service-wide push towards technology-driven customs operations is aimed at driving revenue targets and improving operational performance.
In summary, the Edo/Delta Command is part of a nationwide initiative pushing Nigeria Customs towards greater digital transformation and professional capacity building through sustained training. Officers are urged to prioritise discipline and adhere to established procedures as they navigate this digital shift.
