CSIRO Launches Innovate to Grow: Cyber Security Program for Australian SMEs
CSIRO is launching the Innovate to Grow: Cyber Security program on December 1, 2022, offering Australian SMEs free R&D support to combat growing cyber threats. Applications close on November 7, 2022.
The 10-week online program provides access to CSIRO's cyber security expertise, industry knowledge, and R&D mentors. It aims to encourage SMEs, which make up 99.8% of Australian businesses, to develop new cyber products and services through research and development.
Cyber security attacks are on the rise, with a 13% increase in reported cases in Australia in the 2020-21 financial year. Currently, less than 15% of Australian businesses engage universities or research institutions for innovation activities. The Innovate to Grow program seeks to bridge this gap, offering a pathway for SMEs to enhance their cyber security offerings.
Resilens Operations Project Manager Corey Fraser endorses the program, particularly for start-ups lacking capital and time for R&D. Upon completion, participants gain access to national research expertise and dollar-matched R&D funding. The program is open to eligible companies from any industry offering online solutions, with a focus on SMEs in sectors like agriculture, food, and technology.
The Innovate to Grow: Cyber Security program commences on December 1, 2022, accommodating 20-25 participants. It offers a unique opportunity for Australian SMEs to refine new ideas into viable R&D opportunities, helping to strengthen the nation's cyber security resilience.
