CryptoPunks Make History in Guinness Book of World Records

CryptoPunks, one of the first Ethereum-based NFTs, have made headlines again. This time, it's for their official recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records. The iconic NFT collection, known for its varying rarity levels including zombies, apes, and aliens, has been featured in the latest edition under a new section titled 'CryptoMania'.

The CryptoPunk #5822, a rare alien punk sporting a blue bandana, sold for a staggering 8000 ETH, approximately USD 23 million, in February 2022. This sale made it the most expensive CryptoPunk sale to date, earning it a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the 'most expensive NFT artwork' at the time of sale. The project's creators, Matt Hall and John Watkinson, along with the CryptoPunks project team, are responsible for this official recognition by Guinness World Records.

CryptoPunks were launched in 2017 by Larva Labs, now acquired by Yuga Labs, with a collection of 10,000 unique punks. Their rarity levels and historical significance have made them the holy grail of NFTs. The Guinness Book of World Records has also recognized the blockchain and included a CryptoPunk in its latest edition as part of its 'CryptoMania' section, covering iconic crypto events from the last decade.

The CryptoPunks' entry into the Guinness Book of World Records is a testament to their impact on the NFT and crypto world. Their rarity, historical significance, and record-breaking sales continue to captivate collectors and enthusiasts alike. As the crypto and NFT landscape evolves, it's exciting to see projects like CryptoPunks receive such prestigious recognition.
