CrowdStrike aftermath reportedly brings promising leads for Palo Alto Networks chief executive.

In the wake of the global IT outage that occurred in July 2025, CrowdStrike has managed to maintain its leading position in the Extended Detection and Response (XDR) and Managed Detection and Response (MDR) markets. This is evident from its top ranking in the 2025 Frost Radar for MDR, which was published shortly after the outage.

CrowdStrike's Falcon Complete® Next-Gen MDR was ranked number one among 19 vendors for innovation and growth, confirming its ongoing market leadership in incident detection and response. In the broader XDR space, CrowdStrike continues to be seen as a definitive leader in endpoint protection and detection, with analysts favouring its cloud-native architecture and AI-driven platform over competitors such as Palo Alto Networks Cortex XDR.

While Palo Alto Networks poses a strong challenge, it focuses more broadly beyond endpoint security. CrowdStrike, on the other hand, retains an advantage in agility and focused innovation, particularly in its proprietary Threat Graph and Charlotte AI. These factors contribute to superior operational resilience and real-time threat detection, supporting CrowdStrike's market dominance.

Despite the outage, precise post-outbreak market share figures for CrowdStrike are not publicly quantified. However, the company's strong performance in industry recognition, innovation awards, and competitive positioning demonstrates that it has not lost ground and continues to enjoy significant market share and customer confidence in the XDR and MDR segments.

The IT outage did cause some customers to reevaluate their positions in the XDR market, with discussions centring around Palo Alto Networks' XDR and XSIAM solutions. However, Eric Grenier, director analyst at Gartner, does not see CrowdStrike customers looking to jump ship to another security vendor.

Palo Alto Networks deploys software using a 1% to 3% test sample before rolling out upgrades using a phased approach. This approach aims to minimise the risk of similar outages in the future. Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora has expressed appreciation for the way CrowdStrike handled the aftermath of the outage.

In summary, CrowdStrike remains a leader in the XDR and MDR markets, maintaining its number one ranking in global MDR for 2025. Its focus on AI and cloud-native platform, coupled with its agility and effective AI-powered threat detection, sets it apart from competitors. While Palo Alto Networks poses a strong challenge, CrowdStrike's strength remains concentrated in endpoint and threat detection leadership within the XDR suite.
