Confirmation from the White House Regarding Establishment of Bitcoin Reservoir

The United States government is actively working towards the establishment and expansion of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR), as announced by an executive order from President Donald J. Trump in March 2025. This move positions Bitcoin alongside gold as a strategic reserve asset.

The Treasury and Commerce Secretaries are developing strategies to accumulate Bitcoin over several years, with a goal of holding up to 1 million BTC within five years and potentially up to 4 million BTC over a longer period. Current holdings are estimated to be around 198,000 BTC.

To avoid burdening American taxpayers, the U.S. government plans to acquire Bitcoin using a budget-neutral approach. This means that Bitcoin purchases will not increase national debt or taxes but will be offset by revenues, asset sales, reallocations, or cost savings.

The government aims to conduct acquisitions strategically to minimize market disruption. Methods include OTC trades, buying during market dips, and algorithmic smoothing to spread purchases over time without causing price spikes. There are also plans to integrate public-private partnerships, particularly leveraging U.S. energy resources and cooperating with Bitcoin miners, enabling Bitcoin accumulation through mining earnings rather than direct expenditure.

The Strategic Bitcoin Reserve is designed as a long-term, bipartisan national asset, institutionalized through legislation such as the BITCOIN Act of 2025, and integrated into economic structures. Accumulation will be aligned to a strategic vision that parallels traditional reserves like gold and petroleum, but applied to a digital asset. This accumulation strategy explicitly avoids incremental taxpayer costs and instead seeks innovative, sustainable funding and acquisition routes.

The U.S. government's plans to embrace Bitcoin have sparked an excited discussion in the crypto community. Bo Hines, the Executive Director of the US President's Council of Advisers for Digital Assets, shared a tweet about Donald Trump's campaign promise to turn the U.S. into a Bitcoin superpower. Anthony Pompliano, a podcaster, VC, and crypto entrepreneur, reacted to Bo Hines' tweet with a "fire" emoji.

However, no specific details were given about the timeline or strategies for achieving this goal, nor was there any new information about Donald Trump's campaign promises or his views on cryptocurrencies. The tweet by Bo Hines did not indicate whether Trump has reiterated his promise to turn the U.S. into a Bitcoin superpower since his 2024 election campaign.
