Collaboration Announced: Penguin Solutions Teams Up with SK Telecom and SK hynix for Artificial Intelligence Technological Advancements
In a significant move to bolster South Korea's AI capabilities, Penguin Solutions, SK Telecom, and SK hynix have announced a collaboration aimed at the development and delivery of AI data center solutions. This partnership, unveiled at CES 2025, brings together the expertise of Penguin Solutions in AI data center system design and high-performance computing, SK Telecom's AI data center services, and SK hynix’s memory technologies.
Penguin Solutions, a top NVIDIA certified partner with over 25 years of experience in designing and managing high-performance computing systems, will provide integrated AI data center solutions. Meanwhile, SK Telecom, with its AI data centers optimized for deep learning and generative AI workloads, will contribute by launching one of the largest GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) platforms in South Korea, based on Nvidia B200 GPUs.
SK hynix, on the other hand, will broaden its collaboration with Penguin Solutions by focusing on system-related products and enabling memory technologies relevant to AI data center applications. This collaboration aims to enhance the performance and scalability of AI computing systems.
The strategic combination of SK Telecom's AI data center infrastructure and GPUaaS offering with Penguin Solutions' system integration capabilities and SK hynix's memory technology is expected to create a robust AI computing ecosystem supporting Korea’s national AI competitiveness goals.
Moreover, the collaboration with Supermicro will assist in rapidly securing GPU servers necessary to deploy these services timely. Together, these efforts aim to accelerate Korea’s domestic AI capabilities, support the development of large-scale AI foundation models, and provide a sovereign, high-performance AI computing backbone to bolster the national AI ecosystem.
Ryu Young-sang, CEO of SK Telecom, stated that the collaboration agreement lays the foundation for building globally competitive AI data centers. Mark Adams, president and CEO of Penguin Solutions, reiterated a commitment to designing, building, deploying, and managing cutting-edge solutions to support customers on their AI journeys.
SK hynix aims to overcome limitations in memory technology and lead the expansion of the global AI ecosystem. Penguin Solutions, with a proven track record of deploying over 85,000 GPUs and amassing 2 billion hours of runtime data, is well-positioned to contribute to this ambitious goal.
